In Michigan, especially in Grand Rapids, we are in an exciting time for mental health. The number of mental health resources have been increasing drastically over the last year, which means we all have better access to mental health care. These services can help if you or someone you know is having mental health issues.
Namely, mental health services have been in the news because of the opening of Pine Rest’s Psychiatric Urgent Care Center. This is the first dedicated psychiatric urgent care in West Michigan, where they can provide the immediate assessment and treatment for folks that are having mild to moderate psychiatric symptoms like depression or anxiety. Right now the center only serves adults 18 and older, but hopefully this will soon be expanded to children, adolescents, and seniors.
Mental health has also been in the news because of the coronavirus (or COVID-19) and how this is a challenging time now more than ever. In our next blog we will explore the implications things like social distancing can have on us mentally, but also how we can help ourselves cope.
